Backstroke
	Beginner 1 pts	Intermediate 2 pts	Advanced 3 pts	Expert 4 pts
Body position	Beginner Body at 30 degree angle (legs submerged).	Intermediate Body at 15 degree angle.	Advanced Body horizontal or nearly horizontal.	Expert Body horizontal. May begin to demonstrate body roll.
Kick	Beginner Deep knee bend (knees coming out of water). Feet flexed and submerged.	Intermediate One of the three requirements met.	Advanced Two of the three requirements met.	Expert Slight knee bend, small splash, relaxed feet.
Arms	Beginner Arms are bent, slap the water, and do not maintain a consistent rhythm.	Intermediate One of the three requirements met.	Advanced Two of the three requirements met.	Expert Proper rhythm maintained throughout (one arm enters as other arm exits), thumb exits and pinky enters, and arms are straight beside ears.
Overall	Beginner Swimmer does not look comfortable in the water. Swimmer is submerged and is not able to finish 25m of backstroke.	Intermediate Swimmer looks somewhat comfortable in the water and is able to finish 25m stopping more than once.	Advanced Swimmer looks comfortable in the water and can finish 25m backstroke stopping once.	Expert Swimmer is comfortable in the water and can finish 25m backstroke without stopping.
