Does this piece make you think/feel? Was it interesting to watch

or was it plain and too simple? Did the dances include: 1. an arabesque? 2. a leap or jete? 3. a pas de burre? 4. a pirouette?

Unsatisfactory

Shows little sense of creativity and choroegraphic ability. Movement is stagnant and doesn't build.
Developing

Demonstrates some sense of creativity, but dance doesn't quite grow and fails to compliment music and theme.
Proficient

Choreography shows a good sense of creative style but could have thought outside the box a bit more.
Exemplary

Dance piece is well constructed using creative means to purvey strong feelings and emotions. Choreographers thought outside the box.
Technical skills

How was the QUALITY of movement? Did the dancers have sickled feet, weak arms,etc.

Unsatisfactory

Fails to include any dance technique. Veers completely away from assignement.
Developing

Demonstrates one or two of the required techniques
Does not demonstrate the techniques with attention to detail. (sickled feet, weak line, etc).
Proficient

Many of the required elements were performed but without FULL attention to form and technique.
Exemplary

ALL of the technical elements were demonstrated and performed with great attention to detail. Quality of movement was mastered.
Choreographic Structures

Use of theme/variation, narrative/abstract, canon, AB, ABA, Rondo, call and response. Entrances/Exits

Unsatisfactory

No use of choreographic structures were demonstrated.
Developing

Some choreographic structures were demonstrated but failed to utilize more than one or two.
Proficient

Demonstrates good chroeographic skills. Shows interesting formations and patterns. Several choreographic structures were used within the piece.
Exemplary

Many choreographic structures were used from beginning to end to create a well-rounded interested dance piece. Connections were made and well thought out.
Performance Skills

Did the dancers excite you? Pull you in with their energy and focus? Did they give their very best?

Unsatisfactory

The dancers are not very focused, concentrated or committed to performance.
Developing

The dancers are generally focused, but only some attempt made to communicate with others on stage or audience.
Proficient

The dancers perform with good energy and effort and communicate with each other and the audience through eye contact, facial and body expression.
Exemplary

The dancers create believable characters on stage and are able to engage the audience completely through their performance. They perform with excellent energy and effort.
Collaboration

Did the dancers work WELL together? dance monotone?

Unsatisfactory

Dancers did not work well together, dancers commitment level was not on par. Communication was weak and/or non-compliant.
Developing

Dancers made an attempt to communicate and rehearse but was not successful; dancers/and teacher decided NOT to perform on stage.
Proficient

Dancers worked well together; made committed rehearsals to achieve a good performance; not ALL dancers contributed equally to the choreography process.
Exemplary

Dancers worked very well; gave full commitment to scheduling extra rehearsal time; ALL dancers contributed equally to the choreography process.
