Good
The teacher can tell there is a problem statement, but some of the components of this step of the design process are missing.
Excellent
The student has included a problem statement and all of the constraints of the project.
Generate concepts
Poor
The teacher is unable to identify any components of this step of the design process.
Fair
There is some evidence of brainstorming, but many of the components such as research, and stick figure drawings are still missing.
Good
There is evidence of brainstorming and documentation of ideas as well as stick figure drawings, but student either does not have 3 viable ideas or a decision matrix is missing.
Excellent
There is evidence of brainstorming and documentation of ideas as well as the stick figure drawings for at least 3 viable ideas and a decision matrix is included.
Develop a Solution
Poor
The teacher is unable to identify any components of this step of the design process.
Fair

Construct and Test Prototype
Poor
The teacher is unable to identify any components of this step of the design process.
Fair
The student has very little evidence of recording their build of the prototype.
Good
The student has most of the details from their build, but they are still missing either pictures, explanations of modifications, calculations, or testing results.
Excellent
The student has included all components of this step of the design process including: pictures of their build, explanation of any modifications during build, calculations, and testing results.
Evaluate the Solution
Poor
The teacher is unable to identify any components of this step of the design process.
Fair
