Create Your Own Dance

Students are required to create their own dances, in groups of four or five. Dance routines are required to be one to two minute in length. Dance should be based on a theme and include many synchronized movements. Props can be used in your performance. All music selected must be school appropriate.

Group work	Beginning Work reflects very little effort on the part of the group. Group enthusiasm is low.	Approaching Work reflects some effort from the group. The group shows some interest for their work.	Meeting Work reflects a good effort from the group. The group is generally enthusiastic.	Mastery Work reflects the strong efforts of the group. The group is enthusiastic and positive.
Creativity/Theme	Beginning Theme and creativity is lacking in the performance. No clear beginning, middle and end to the dance routine.	Approaching Theme and creativity are evident. More work needed to expand in this area. Dance had a clear beginning, middle and end.	Meeting Theme and creativity are strong. Dance routine follows a definite theme and creativity is evident from beginning to end.	Mastery Theme and creativity are powerful. Dance routine leaves people wanting more.
Movements	Beginning Dance movements are stiff and unnatural. More time needed working on connecting the movements to the music.	Approaching Dance movements fit the music for the most part. Some of the movements seemed out of place.	Meeting Dance movements were good and connected to the music.	Mastery Dance movements were solid and showed considerable time, effort and practice. Excellent job coordinating dance and music together.
Timing	Beginning Attempts are made to follow the beat of the music. Timing is off in a number of places. More practice needed.	Approaching Routine demonstrates a basic understanding of moving to the beat of the music. Timing is off in a few spots.	Meeting Dance is done to the beat of the music. Timing is good throughout presentation.	Mastery Dance is done to the beat of the music. The timing of the routine is superior.
