The class is well-organized and flows smoothly and has clear cohesive, connected content. Transitions between activities are seamless. Clear objectives and expectations are communicated to students.

The class is generally well-structured and there is some connected concepts. Transitions between activities are there, but may seem disconnected. Objectives and expectations are somewhat communicated to students.

The class has some structure, but doesn't completely follow the expected structure. Cohesive connections are not apparent. Transitions between activities are somewhat abrupt and disconnected. Objectives and expectations are not very clear.
Needs improvement

The class lacks correct structure and transitions. There are no cohesive connections within the class and objectives are not communicated to students.
Not acceptable

The class does not follow any proper class structure.
Class Elements

Excellent

The class includes a variety of proper elements for that type of dance class. Each element is well planned, clearly demonstrated and appropriate to the level and clearly communicated to the students.
Good

The class includes proper elements within each section, but may seem a little disjointed. Each element is adequately planned and communicated to the students.
Emerging

The class includes some elements for each section of class, but may be somewhat incomplete, feel slightly disjointed and teacher struggled with clear communication of concepts.
Needs improvement

The class lacked several elements for each section and was not clearly demonstrated or communicated.

The class did not include any proper elements.
Combination strucutre

Excellent

The combinations were complex, creative, level appropriate and properly structured and timed with excellent understanding to the music.

The combinations were level appropriate and properly structured in the phrasing and demonstrated proper timing with the music.

Most combinations had proper structure. Some combinations may have been a little disjointed with the music.
Needs improvement

Teacher struggled creating combinations with proper structure and phrasing. Many combinations were disjointed with the music.

Combinations did not demonstrate proper phrasing and lacked understanding of musical timing.
Music Appropriateness

Excellent

The music selected is highly appropriate for the dance style, age level, and time signature with each combination. It was evident teacher gave a lot of thought to the music and each piece enhanced each combination.

The music selected is appropriate for the dance style and age level. Each piece of music was the proper time signature for each combination.

The music selected was somewhat appropriate for the dance style and age. Some pieces of music did not quite complement the combinations.
Needs improvement

The music selected was only partially appropriate for the style and age. Many pieces of music felt disjointed with the combinations.

Lesson Delivery

The written lesson plan is mostly comprehensive and well-organized. It includes most necessary details and demonstrates a good understanding off the content, concepts and objectives.
Emerging

The written lesson plan is missing some elements and is not well-organized. Concepts and objectives are present, but not very clear and concise.
Needs improvement

The written lesson plan is significantly incomplete and disorganized. It lacks concepts and objectives.
Not acceptable

Student did not prepare a written lesson plan.
