On-air Personality Presentation 
Rubric used to evaluate performance of on an on-air media personality. Primary focus is for radio performers in a music-driven format, but can be used across most platforms as well.

Engagement and intimate interaction with listener.

Poor

Poor one-to-one and no intimacy; performer sounds like they're reading a script to a large group of strangers.
Fair

Can hear some one-to-one ability but it isn't intimate; performer sounds like they're talking at an acquaintance.
Good

Good sense of one-to-one, though not quite like chatting with a best friend; genuine intimacy lacking so performer sounds a bit formal and distant.
Excellent

Highly engaging like sharing stories with a best friend; intimacy cranked up along with a playful, conversational tone.
Storytelling Concepts

Engaging story ideas.

Poor

Concepts felt tired and over-used thus zero impact on the listener. Weak conceptualization skills so difficult for the listener to relate to the story overall.
Fair

Concepts often local but a bit of a cliche; though story was easy to relate to, inconsistent storytelling skills with a weak start and finish equals low listener impact.
Good

Slow start but once things got rolling there is decent engagement and solid storytelling. Not vey unique concepts but well told and usually locally focused.
Excellent

Unique, local story ideas creatively told; very captivating from the opening thought through to the story's conclusion.
Story Writing Style

Tight, captivating story writing.

Poor

Writing lacks brevity and feels repetitive; no thought segues or endings so point to the story unclear.
Fair

Generally interesting stories but non-sequitors (no thought segue leading in) and weak or unfinished endings.
Good

Impact effective but structure a bit disorganized -- endings need to be clarified and tightened.
Excellent

Well organized thoughts tightly written; succinct style keeps listener engaged and anticipating each new thought.
Story Presentation/Vocal Quality

Performer owns the words and does not simply read a script.

Poor

Low energy and frequent mumbling really hurts engagement with the listener. Weak articulation and rushed thoughts -- often blending together -- destroys true ownership of the ideas.
Fair

With no colloquialisms, sloppy articulation, and a sometimes hurried delivery, it's frequently missing a conversational tone. Sounds too much like the performer is reading a script.
Good

Clean articulation but not as spontaneous sounding as it could be; pace and volume too consistent so it sounds a little formal.
Excellent

Super clean articulation yet still sounds natural; wonderful pace and volume changes makes it feel spontaneous.
On-Mic Presence & Levels

Easy to hear in an intimate setting.

Poor

Music levels consistently too hot so performer frequently drowned out. Performer too far off microphone and pushing too much volume so zero intimacy or connection with the listener.
Fair

Performer sounds a bit too far off microphone hurting any sense of an intimate setting. Performer occasionally drowned out by b/g levels.
Good

Reasonable intimacy but performer not working the microphone enough -- sometimes level is too hot or too weak depending on performer's volume. Voice to music levels good most of the time.
Excellent

Performer working the microphone very effectively so presence always high. Levels always perfect so the setting feels intimate (no distracting ambient noise).
