Arms
Needs Improvement
Student has multiple faults in their mechanics such as:
1) Elevated shoulders
2) Arms break midline of body
3) T-Rex arms
4) Karate chops
5) Mismatched upper & lower mechanics
Fair
Student has minimal mechanical faults and shows signs of correct arm pattern while running
Good
Student consistently runs with correct arm mechanics and is able to match upper and lower mechanics.
Excellent
Student shows no mechanical faults and is proficient in all upper body/arm movement.
Shoulders are relaxed.
Arms swing from the shoulders at a 90 degree angle.
Arms do not cross the midline of the body.
Student demonstrates full understanding of arm movement.
Legs/Feet
Needs Improvement
Student shows multiple mechanical issues in lower body. Specifically:
1) Feet land flat
2) No attempt to land on balls of feet.
3) Stride is too long/short/choppy
4) Lack of hip flexion
5) Excessive drag
6) Significant leg whip (due to lack of hip flexion)
7) Lower body drills are incorrect (HK/BK)
Fair
Student has minimal mechanical faults and begins to show signs of progression such as:
1) Legs near full extension.
2) Attempting to run mid-foot to ball of foot.
3) Stride begins to balance out.
4) Knees are lifted properly due to hip extension
5) Drills have improved
Good
Student has become competent in lower body mechanic drills and consistently uses correct lower body mechanics while running. Student may still require work in:
1) Stride correction
2) Drag reduction
3) Minimizing leg whip
4) Improving hip flexion
5) Foot placement
Excellent
Student shows no sign of mechanical faults and is proficient in all lower body movements while running.
Feet land in proper manner. Student gets push forward from using balls of feet.
Has minimal drag.
Legs and arms move in pattern together. (opposite arm and leg)
Upper Body
Needs Improvement
Student has multiple faults in their upper body region such as:
1) Excessive trunk flexion
2) Excessive trunk extension
3) Excessive trunk rotation
4) Excessive shoulder elevation
5) Bouncing from side to side
Fair
Student has a vertical alignment in upper body. Student still requires work in:
1) Shoulder depression
2) Side bending
3) Excessive rotation
Good
Student's upper body is upright position, does not lean to far forward or backwards. Student still requires minimal adjustment from prior content.
Excellent
Student's upper body is upright and student is comfortably relax. Torso does not twist, no wasted motions.
Pacing
Needs Improvement
Student demonstrates no understanding of pacing.
1) Sprinting
2) Constant walking
3) No attempt at running
4) Significant amounts of intermittent running and walking
5) No understanding of the "talk test"
Fair
Student demonstrates knowledge of pacing & the "talk" test.
Pacing is still inconsistent, but student is able to adapt and adjust.
Good
Student understands various paces in the "talk" test. Student uses pacing well during lesson, yet pacing still varies during runs.
Excellent
Student demonstrates prolific understanding of pacing and is able to use it to full advantage. Excels at being able to control how they run, pace did not change at all, unless the run requires it. Student adapts exceptionally.
