Unified Arts: Dance Education Group Dance Assessment

Students work in an assigned group to learn a social dance and present it. Task: Students will be required to execute the movements of the "Cotton Eye Joe" that were taught to them during their Social Dancing Unit.

Dance Group Assessment Students, with their group, are assessed on the movements that were taught to them in order to execute the "Cotton Eye Joe".
	Developing Student has not yet shown an adequate understanding at this time. 1 pts	Progressing Student shows a basic understanding. 2 pts	Satisfactory Student shows a solid understanding. 3 pts	Excellent Student shows an in-depth understanding. 4 pts
Rhythm/Tempo Ability to stay in time with the music	Developing The dancers attempts to keep a rhythm, but often gets off beat and speeds up or falls behind. Don't follow the beat in the music.	Progressing The dancers show a good understanding of tempo and beat but periodically ges off beat or make errors in rhythm.	Satisfactory The dancers shos great understanding of tempo and beat by rarely getting off beat or making errors in rhythm.	Excellent The dancers are outstandingly accurate in beat, tempo, rhythms and the dance sequence.
Preparedness The dance was well rehearsed.	Developing Dancers are not prepared to perform at all.	Progressing Dancers are not prepared and it is clear that rehearsal was definitely lacking. Many dance moves are unsure and many also get missed entirely.	Satisfactory Dancers are somewhat prepared, but could have used more rehearsals. Some dance moves are unsure or are missed.	Excellent Dancers are completely prepared and have obviously rehearsed. Dance moves are clear with what they were taught.
Member Participation and Technique The members of the group participate in executing the dance movements for the dance routine.	Developing One member participates in executing the movements for the dance. The group is disorganized. Displays minimal effort by the group.	Progressing 2 to 4 members participate in executing the movements taught for the dance. The group is not put together at all.	Satisfactory Only 5 members participate in executing the movements taught for the dance. The group is put together, but not everyone is dancing.	Excellent All 6 plus members participate in the dance. The group is extremely well put together. Everyone is focused and on task.
