Level I

Student shows NO understanding of the types of activities that increase his/her heart rate. Student names and/or draws activities that DO NOT increase his/her heart rate or draws images that are NOT relevant to the question.
Level II

Student shows LITTLE understanding of the types of activities that increases his/her heart rate. Student is only able to name and/or draw ONE activity that increase his/her heart rate or TWO activities where the subject is moving but his/her heart rate is only SLIGHTLY increased. (i.e.- swinging on a swing, walking, playing catch).
Level III

Student shows MODERATE understanding of the types of activities that increase his/her heart rate. Student names and/or draws TWO activities where the subject is participating causing his/her heart rate to MODERATELY increase. (i.e.- riding a bicycle, skiing, hula hooping).
Level IV

Student shows FULL understanding of the types of activities that increase his/her heart rate. Student names and/or draws activities where the subject is participating VIGOROUSLY causing his/her heart rate to GREATLY increase. (i.e.- running, playing soccer, jumping rope).

Marissa is swinging on the swings and Jessica is playing soccer. Which girl's heart rate is higher?

Draw the girl that has the higher heart rate playing that activity.

Level I

Student shows NO understanding of the type of activities that produces a higher heart rate. Student draws the activity that DOES NOT produce the higher heart rate or draws an image that is NOT relevant to the question.
Level II

Student shows LITTLE understanding of the type of activity that produces a higher heart rate. Student is able to either correctly identify the girl with the higher heart rate or draw a picture of the activity that produces the higher heart rate, but is unable to do both. (i.e. - Student writes, "Marissa has a higher hear rate." And then draws a girl playing soccer).
Level III

Student shows MODERATE understanding of the activity that produces the higher heart rate. Student is able to correctly indentify the activity that produces the higher heart rate but does not go on to explain why. Studnet is able to draw an imagae related to soccer but may not show, in detail, the girl playing the game. (i.e.-Student writes, "Jessica has the higher heart rate." Then, students draws a soccer field, a soccer ball, a girl with a soccer ball, etc).
Level IV

Student shows FULL understanding of the type of activity that produces a higher heart rate. Student clearly states which girl's heart rate is higher and is able to draw in detail the activity that causes that girl to have a higher heart rate. (i.e.-Student writes, "Since Jessica is running around playing soccer, Jessica's heart rate will be higher." Then, students draws, in detail, Jessica playing runing around playing soccer).
