Runner Data
Posture - Feet / Ankles

Optimal Value

Feet are aligned with lower leg and oriented parallel to direction of movement
Common Errors

Feet are everted at footstrike (reduces step length and produces excessive force on ankles)

Footstrike is heel to toe (increases ground contact time)
Runner Data
Posture - Legs

Optimal Value

Knees are slightly flexed at footstrike
Common Errors

Knees are stiff and extended at foot strike (creates rearward ground force vector)
Runner Data
Posture - Hips

Optimal Value

Hips remain in a neutral position
Common Errors

Hips are slouched with excessive posterior tilt (Reduces net forward propulsive force) or positioned with too much anterior tilt (limits step length).
Runner Data
Posture - Torso

Optimal Value

Trunk rotates slightly around the longitudinal axis and remains erect with a slight lean (straight line between shoulder hip and knees)
Common Errors

Trunk rotates excessively wasting energy by creating force not aligned with direction of movement

Torso is slouched forward (limits step length) or in swayback (limits propulsive force generation)
Runner Data
Posture - Arms

Optimal Value

Arms swung primarily in same direction as movement rotating at both the elbow and gleno-humeral joint such that hands are aligned with hip on rearward swing and elbow with hip on forward swing.
Common Errors

Arms swing across midline of torso creating exaggerated torso rotation

Arms do not rotate at shoulders and elbow

Arms are carried too high/low and held stiff
Runner Data
Posture - Head / Neck

Optimal Value

Head should be held upright with chin parallel to the ground.
Common Errors

Neck is flexed excessively forward creating tension in the neck and upper back.

Head swings excessively from side to side wasting energy in not aligned with direction of movement
