A. Responses are made to classmates in a timely manner and enhance the discussion by asking critical thinking questions.
B. Student makes more than the minimum number of required replies.
C. Replies are made across the week - they occur on more than two days during the week.
D. Responses use a variety of response techniques (asks thought provoking questions, summarize the discussion, reviews posts made, provide group feedback, replying to someone who does not have a reply).
Proficient

A. Responses are made to classmates in a timely manner, but only enhances the discussion by asking simple types of questions (yes or no, for example).
B. Student makes only the minimum number of responses required.
C. Responses are made on two days during the week.
D. Replies do not include a variety of response techniques (as explained in the Excellent reply box).
Adequate

A. Responses to discussion simply makes a comment about the topic rather than requiring critical thinking (uses a discussion stopper, for example).
B. Student does not meet the minimum number of responses for the week as required by the assignment.
C. Replies are made on only 1 day during the week.
D. Uses only 1 response technique for all responses.
Substandard

A. Student responds to the discussion late (no matter how good the response is), or a comment is made that adds nothing of value to the discussion.
B. Student responds to only one primary post during the week.
C. Replies are made on only 1 day, and it is a simple comment.
D. Responses are comments and thus fail to use any of the specific response techniques.
Missing

Student makes no attempt to effectively respond to a classmate's primary post.
