Volleyball: Underhand Serve Volleyball: Underhand Serve Evaluation on the fundamental skill of underhand serving a volleyball. Students are rated and scored on the mechanics of their serving, not the number of serves landing inbound. Underhand Serve

Feet	Needs Improvement Does not attempt to complete the steps.	Developing Does not lead with the correct foot. Stands in front of the end line.	Proficient Stand behind the end line, facing the net. Staggered, feet pointing to a target in bounds. Back foot is the striking foot. Proper weight shift.	Advanced Stand behind the end line, facing the net. Staggered, feet pointing to a target in bounds. Back foot is the striking foot. Proper weight shift. Very consistent.
Hands	Needs Improvement Does not attempt to complete the steps	Developing Holds the ball too high or tosses the ball in the air before hitting it. Does not move the ball holding hand smoothly allowing the striking hand to make contact.	Proficient Front hand: holds the ball with an open palm at waist level-flat. Striking hand: Either striking with palm surface (fingers in a fist) or on the top of the fist. Ball is served "in" some of the time.	Advanced Front hand: holds the ball with an open palm at waist level-flat. Striking hand: Either striking with palm surface (fingers in a fist) or on the top of the fist. Ball is served over the net and "in" most of the time. Very consistent.
Contact	Needs Improvement There is no contact with the ball.	Developing Throws the ball up creating a moving target. Serves the ball into the net or out a majority of the time.	Proficient Swing arm back and forward, yet close to the body. Contact occurs at the waist. Ball is served in an upward motion.	Advanced Swing arm back and forward, yet close to the body. Contact the ball immediately after dropping the ball without lifting or spinning it. Contact occurs at the waist.Very consistent in serving "in".
Eyes	Needs Improvement Student does not look at the ball.	Developing Student looks at the ball briefly and then focuses on the net when they hit the ball.	Proficient Student watches the ball the entire time they serve.	Advanced Student watches the ball the entire time they serve and serves the ball "in" a majority of the time.
