Memorization	Needs Improvement Student is not memorized or fumbles or misses words quite frequently. Or student did not put a lot of work and practice into the monologue.	Approaching Standards Student is somewhat memorized but not entirely. Or student fumbles or misses some words. Student put some work and practice into the monologue, but there could have been more.	Meets Standards Student is completely memorized and does not fumble or miss words. It is also shown that the student put a lot of effort and practice into the monologue.
Clarity of character/objective (Characters want)	Needs Improvement Little to no understanding of the character. The objective of the character is not seen and the relationship between the characters are hard to understand.	Approaching Standards The understanding of the character is beginning to develop. The objective of the character and the relationship of the characters are established in the performance, but more work could be done on committing to the character.	Meets Standards There is a strong understanding of the character. The objective of the character and the relationship between the characters are clearly seen, as well.
Projection/Expression	Needs Improvement Student uses little to no expression in his/her voice and could not be heard during the performance.	Approaching Standards Student used expression while speaking and could be heard at most times during the performance.	Meets Standards Student uses expression in his/her voice and could be heard during the performance. Student added in extra traits that helped the believability of the character.
