Adminstration of a nebulizer treatment 
Through simulation the instructor will evaluate the student's clinical competance on this procedure through direct observation. Each student will have 15 minutes to conduct the entire procedure.

Initiate procedure with guidance. Needs reassurance that steps are appropriate.
Competent

Independently adminsters treatment to patient. Follows the right procedure. Lacks communication with the patient and does not check on patient during procedure.
Proficient

Independently adminsters treatment. Effectively communicates with patient what will occur during this treatment. Checks on patient during treatment for tolerance.
Evaluation

Novice

Does not independently assess the patient post treatment. The instructor needs to initiate the evaluation.
Advance beginner

Conducts a minimal assessment with guidance. Lacks confidence and omits certains steps (vital signs, listening of lungs etc.). Does not articulate findings.
Competent

Conducts an appropriate physical assessment including listening to breath sounds, vital signs, pulse oximetry. Lacks confidence.
Proficient

Conducts a thorough physical post treatment. Comprehensive assessment is conducted with proper articulation of findings.
Documentation

Novice

Does not documented proper information.
Advance beginner

Documents most of the assessment and procedure but lacks certain items. Such as patient's response or flow sheet.
Competent

Documents the entire assessment and procedure. Needs some improvement on communicating the entire procedure in a nursing format. Does not fill out flow sheet.
Proficient

Fills out respiratory flow sheet and documents appropriately and thoroughly in the chart.
