Volleyball Skills Assessment 
This rubric is used to outline each individual student's performance pre test and post test of our physical education volleyball unit. It is to judge their current condition as well as their post condition for the PE class. Each participant will be evaluated equally with no bias opinion.

Forearm Bump Pass

Beginning

Hands were apart, body in upright position, minimal lift, ball contact inconsistent
Developing

Weight on heels, demonstrates some consistency using correct hand position, elbows inconsistently locked, little control of ball, missing key components-force, angle of projection and lift
Proficient

Body in low athletic stance, weight on balls of feet, knees bent, hands together, elbows locked, uses forearms to bump ball, ball went towards target, some control of the ball
Exemplary

Body in low athletic stance, weight on balls of feet, knees bent, uses legs for power, hands together, elbows locked, bumps ball with forearms, ball goes towards target, control of the ball, pass had a purpose

Throws ball in the air, feet not facing forward, does not use proper arm swing, no control of ball

Holds ball in non-dominant hand, feet face forward, uses pendulum arm swing, hits bottom of ball with heel of hand, ball usually goes towards the net
Exemplary

Holds ball in non-dominant hand, feet face forward, uses pendulum arm swing, hits bottom of ball with heel of hand, ball consistently goes towards or over the net in bounds

(Overhand)

Beginning

Rarely shows proper technique nor understanding in executing overhand serve, does not demonstrate proper extension with elbow shoulder level, arm above your head, uses fist to strike ball, inconsistently tosses ball appropriately to perform overhead serve

Occasionally shows proper technique, holds ball on palm of non-serving hand, in front of striking-arm's shoulder, sometimes demonstrates proper extension elbow shoulder level, arm above your head, hand open behind ear ready to give ball a high-five, and showing proper follow- through. Occasionally tosses ball appropriately to perform overhead serve

Comments:
Modifications have been made due to the age of students learning the basics of volleyball. Some use a softer, padded ball, the volleyball net is lower than standard height, students may move closer to the net to serve
