These are the criteria I'll use to determine the grade for each dance taught in the class.

LEVEL 1

Dancer does not know the movements.

Dancer cannot execute the correct placement of hands, feet, legs.
LEVEL 2

Dancer knows most of the movements.

Dancer can execute the correct placement of the hands, feet, and legs most of the time.
LEVEL 3

Able to execute and describe the movements.

Dancer can execute correct placement of hands, feet, legs.
Rhythm/Tempo

Ability to stay in time with the music

LEVEL 1

Attempts to keep a rhythm, but gets off beat and speeds up or falls behind often.

Doesn't follow beat in music.
LEVEL 2

Shows a basic understanding of tempo and beat, but sometimes falls behind and/or speeds up in places.

Makes errors in rhythm.
LEVEL 3

Accurate in beat, tempo, rhythms of dance sequences.
Shows Energy/Attitude

LEVEL 1

Shows no emotion or mood of the dance.

No connection with the music.
LEVEL 2

Somewhat involved in the emotion of dance.

Sometimes connects with the music.
LEVEL 3

Involved in the emotion or mood of dance.

Connecting with music instead of going through the motions.
Effort to Learn Dance

LEVEL 1

Little effort made to contribute to the class.
LEVEL 2

Some effort put forth.

Cooperative most of the time.
LEVEL 3

Worked hard to learn dance!

Respect shown for other performers.
Individual Cooperation

LEVEL 1

Dancer was not prepared.

Dancer did not participate in the majority of the classes.
LEVEL 2

Dancer remembered some steps, but forgot others.

Dancer participated in some of the class.
LEVEL 3

Prepare and well- rehearsed.

Dancer participated in all classes.
