Shaded 3-D Value Art I: Shaded Sphere Value Study The student will create a three-dimensional from two dimensional form by integrating shaded values. Rubric Code: MXAAACC By HanaFitwi Ready to use Public Rubric Subject: Arts and Design Type: Assessment Grade Levels: 6-8

	Level 4 10 pts	Level 3 9 pts	Level 2 8 pts	Level 2 7 pts
3-D Form	Level 4 Pencil strokes follow the 3D shape with shading in a curved or liner manner consistent with the spherical or quadrilateral shape. Shape appears three-dimensional.	Level 3 Shading is somewhat curved like the sphere or linear like a quadrilateral. Shape appears somewhat flat in areas.	Level 2 Shading does not show 3D. Form appears flat.	Level 2 Shading is difficult to determine shape of form. Form appears flat.
Light source	Level 4 Established light source with noticeable highlight. Shadow is congruent with light source for a realistic interpretation. Shadow is correct size.	Level 3 Established light source with noticeable highlight. Shadow is somewhat congruent with light source. Shadow is almost correct size.	Level 2 Established light source, via lighter area. Shadow is not in line with light source and goes off in different direction. Shadow is not correct size.	Level 2 Unsure of light source, not enough highlight. Light source doesn't help with illusion of 3-D. Shadow is clearly not in line with light source or not visable, not correct size.
Value	Level 4 Blending appears smooth with proper gradations of value. Can see at least 4 values. Cast shadow is darkest value.	Level 3 Blending needs some improvement, with some choppy gradations in value. Cast shadow is not the darkest value.	Level 2 Blending needs a great deal of improvement , shapes appear grainy and there is choppy gradations Grooves are etched into the paper. Shaded with less than 4 values. Cast shadow is not the darkest value.	Level 2 No blending or muddy/messy blending. Blending is not repairable. Grooves are etched into the paper. Shaded with less then 4 values.
Craftsmanship	Level 4 Shape is crisp and clean with no outside pencil strokes. Drawing appearance is very neat. No other marks are on paper except for sphere/shadow.	Level 3 Drawing appearance is somewhat neat with a few smudges. No other marks are on paper except for shape/shadow.	Level 2 Drawing is somewhat messy with some shading appearing outside of shape/shadow. Some smudging but no other marks on paper.	Level 2 Drawing appears messy. Shading appears outside of sphere/shadow. There are additional lines and smudges on paper that should have been erased.
