Search Warrant 
You are a member of a team of criminal investigators assigned to a major felony case. Your job is to interview the involved parties and develop suficient probable cause against the suspect or suspects of the crime. At an appropriate point in your investigation you should have developed enough probable cause to obtain a search warrant in order to search the suspect's property and obtain incriminating evidence to be used against her/him at trial.

Probable Cause Statement

The statement will contain the minimum amount of probable cause to obtain a search warrant. The statment will be properly written and formatted for court.

Elements of probalbe cause are not sufficiently established to obtain a search warrant. Numerous spelling and grammar errors may be found. Significant elements of probable cause are missing. Locations and areas to be searched are missing or not described in detail so that a person unfamiliar with the case would not be able to proceed confidently
Fair

Only minor grammar and spelling errors. There is enough probable cause to justify a search warrant. The locations and areas to be searched can be identified.
Good

There are no gramatical or spelling errors in the document. All of the relevant probable cause elements are clearly stated and supported. The locations and areas to be searhced are accurately described. Individuals to be seized are identified in detail and using multiple sources.
Investigator's Report

The report indicates when and where a search warrant would be needed and when and where other tyes of searches would be appropriate

Poor

One or more of the types of searches are unstated or not explained. Examples of each search are not present. The searches are not accurately defined. The reasons to search places are not explained.
Fair

There is one example of each type of search possible. Legal limits of each type of search are described.

One or more examples of each type of search possible are present. Multiple descriptions of the legal limits associated with different searches are provided. Methods of combining different searches together to overcome possible limitations are explained.
Search Warrant Execution Briefing

An oral briefing, a written team sheet with team member assignments

Poor

One or more of the required subjects is not covered. The safety briefing does not contain emergency medical treatment, and appropriate actions to take to identify and prevent unsafe acts.
Fair

The following items are covered in the briefing: safety, location, ingress and egress, weapons, vehicles, arrest teams, search teams, evidence collection, staging areas, a suspect briefing, and contingencies
Good

The safety briefing includes possible threats presented by the location and suspect(s) as well as communications links.
