Beginning

Demonstrates little knowledge of dance, unsure of some movements, hesitates, watches others and makes several errors.
Developing

Demonstrates knowledge of dance. Keeps up with the group. Some errors.
Proficient

Demonstrates good knowledge of dance. Keeps up with group. Few errors, however, it does not interfere with performance.
Exceeding

Demonstrates excellent knowledge of the dance with accuracy. The student is extremely prepared and knows the routine.
Performance Skills

Standard 1b

Beginning

Generally focused, but only some attempt made to communicate with partner. Lack of enthusiasm is shown during the performance.
Developing

Communicates with partner through eye contact,facial, and body expression. Some enthusiasm is shown throughout the performance.
Proficient

Communicates with partner through eye contact, facial, and body expression. Shows enthusiasm and energy throughout the entire performance.
Exceeding

Creates believable presence and is able to engage the audience and communicates with partner and/or the audience through expressions, enthusiasm, and energy for the performance.
Technical Skills

Standard 1a

Beginning

Dance includes at least 2 different partner dance steps and/or does not include an individual dance step.

Dance does not repeat itself and/or doesn't last for the length of the song.
Developing

Dance includes at least 4 different partner dance steps and one individual dance step.

Dance repeats itself for the length of the song, or at least 2 minutes.
Proficient

Dance includes at least 6 different partner dance steps and one individual dance step.

Dance repeats itself for the length of the song, or at least 2 minutes.
Exceeding

Dance includes more than 8 different partner dance steps and several individual dance steps.

Dance repeats itself for the length of the song, or at least 2 minutes.
Rhythm/Tempo

Standard 2b

Beginning

Shows a basic understanding of tempo and beat, but falls behind and/or speeds up in places or makes errors in rhythm.
Developing

Generally accurate in beat, tempo, rhythms of dance sequences most of the time.
Proficient

Accurate in beat, tempo, and rhythms of dance sequences throughout the dance.
Exceeding

Shows a complete understanding of tempo and beat. Stays on rhythm throughout the dance. Smooth transitions.
