Volleyball Assessment 
This rubric will be used to assess skills at the end of the volleyball unit. Students will participate in tournament play during the assessment.

Forearm Pass

Exceeding

Body always in ready position, weight on balls of feet, knees bent, called mine early, hands together, arms straight, excellent pass to another player or over net.
Meeting

Body in ready position, weight on balls of feet, knees bent, called mine, hands together, arms straight, good pass to another player or over net.
Working Towards

Body sometimes in ready position, weight on heels, knees sometimes bent, not calling mine consistently, hands somewhat together, arms crooked , innacurate pass.
Needs Improvement

Body in not in ready position, weight flat on feet, hands apart, arms crooked, no attempt to move towards ball.
Set or Overhand Pass

Exceeding

Body in ready position, made a triangle for hands, called mine, excellent follow through with hands spread apart, pass could be spiked or pass is sent over net.
Meeting

Body in ready position, made a triangle for hands, called mine, good follow through, control of ball to target
Working Towards

Body sometimes in ready position,made a triangle for hands but, hit ball off of palms (not fingers) or one hand; follow through not straight or to target; some control of ball

Body not in ready position, hands below shoulders; no effort made to keep ball in play; move away from ball or no attempt to move towards ball
Serve (under or overhand)

Serve was over the net and in bounds, arm correct, excellent weight transfer, excellent control of the ball, ball was placed in a difficult area to return; consistent

Serve is usually over the net and in bounds, arm correct, good weight transfer, some control of the ball; still working on consistency.
Working Towards

Serve is sometimes over the net and in bounds, arm not usually correct, incorrect weight transfer, little control of the ball; not consistent
Needs Improvement

Serve is not usually over the net and in bounds, incorrect or no weight transfer; ball hit off of wrist or fingers; no consistency
Team Play

Exceeding

Encourages teammates, includes others in plays, Aggressively calls for ball, encourages communication
Meeting

Encourages teammates, attempts to include others in plays, calls for the ball, encourages communication
Working Towards

Responds to communication from other players, plays position and makes effort to contribute.
Needs Improvement

Lack of communication; negative towards teammates, disrupts the game play.

Exceeding

Clearly takes on a leadership role for the team. Knows the rules and follows them.
Meeting

Helps others on the team, and understands the basic concepts of the game.
Working Towards

Does not know the basic rules of the game, but shows determination to learn.
Needs Improvement

Does not know the basic rules of the game and displays a negative or indifferent attitude during play.
