Safe Entry & Exit
A - Advanced
Can Successfully Enter and Exit the pool independently using the previously taught safe entry/exit.
B - Proficient
Can Successfully Enter and Exit the pool independently but requires verbal cues to perform correct technique.
C - Basic
Can Enter and Exit the pool with inproper technique.
D - Below Basic
Requires assistance to either Enter or Exit the pool.
Threading water
A - Advanced
Completes the designated amount of time with their chin and head out of the water. Breathing is controlled.
B - Proficient
Completes the designated amount of treading water time but their chins and heads go under the water on several occasions. Heavy breathing is usually noticed as well.
C - Basic
Holds onto the ropes occasionally to stay afloat. Can thread water only for 5 seconds max.
D - Below Basic
Holds onto the ropes or the side to stay floating. Struggles to keep their head out of the water and either sinks repetitively or holds onto the rope.
Dog crawl
A - Advanced
Student can dog crawl with no support from flotation devices.
B - Proficient
Student can dog crawl with assistance of a pool noodle.
C - Basic
Student can dog crawl with physical assistance
D - Below Basic
Student not willing to dog crawl.
Kick board
A - Advanced
Body is prone and streamlined. Fluid flutter kick.
B - Proficient
Body prone in the water. Recognizable flutter kick.
C - Basic
Performed with the assistance of a flotation device.
D - Below Basic
Performed only with physical assistance.
