VOLLEYBALL SKILLS

This rubric will be used to assess skills at the end of the volleyball unit. Students will participate in tournament play during the assessment.

Bump Pass	Level 1 Hands were apart, body in upright position, no attempt to keep ball in play.	Level 2 Weight on heels, elbows bent, ball was playable for teammates, some control of ball	Level 3 Body in athletic stance, weight on balls of feet, knees bent, hands together, ball went towards target, control of the ball	Level 4 Body in athletic stance, weight on balls of feet, knees bent, hands together, allowed set-up for attack.
Set Pass	Level 1 Body in upright position hands below shoulders no effort made to keep ball in play.	Level 2 Made a triangle, hit ball off of palms (not fingers), some control of ball	Level 3 Body in athletic stance, made a triangle for hands, good follow through, control of ball to target	Level 4 Body in athletic stance, made a triangle for hands, good follow through, pass could be spiked.
Underhand Serve	Level 1 Ball not over or not in, no control of ball, ball hit with open palm	Level 2 Serve was over and in or close to in, had some control of the ball, improper foot form, arm did not have full swing.	Level 3 Serve was over and in bounds, arm swing was correct, had control of the ball and its placement.	Level 4 Feet in narrow stride, knees slightly bent, ball held in palm of opposite hand, eye focus on ball until contact made, opposite arm swings and weight is transferred, contact made with heel of hand.
Overhand Serve	Level 1 Ball not over and in or close to in, no control of ball, ball hit off of wrist or fingers	Level 2 Serve was over and in or close. Had some control of ball, arm was too low, improper footwork	Level 3 Serve was over the net and in bounds, arm correct, control of the ball	Level 4 Serve was over the net and in bounds, arm correct, proper footwork, and control of the ball
