Cosmetology Work Sample Students will work with a manekin head and several tools to display their skill in basic tasks of a cosmetologist.

Sanitization & Setup Student follows directions and stays on task	Re-direct Student Program Student needed a high level of supervision to complete the initial sanitation and setup. All sectioning lines were crooked and placement was not in proper postion with ears or nose.	Developing Student needed several reminders to complete the initial sanitation and setup. Two sectioning lines were crooked and/or placement was not in proper postion with ears or nose.	Accomplished Student needed a few reminders to complete the initial sanitation and setup. Either the sectioning lines were crooked or placement was not in proper postion with ears or nose.	Excellent Student was able to listen to directions and complete the initial sanitation and setup independently. All the sectioning lines were straight and placement was in proper postion with ears or nose.
Perm Rods Student should have 6 perm rods in the left-front quadrant of the head	Re-direct Student Program Student needed a high level of supervision to complete the perm rod section. The majority of rods & bands are not parellel with the base of the head and most of the hair is very loose or off the rods.	Developing Student needed several reminders to complete the perm rod section. Three rods & bands are not parellel with the base of the head and some of the hair is loose or off the rods.	Accomplished Student needed a few reminders to complete the perm rod section. All but 1 or 2 rods & bands are parellel with the base of the head and hair is very tightly wrapped on most of the rods.	Excellent Student was able to listen to directions to complete the perm rod section independently. All rods & bands are parellel with the base of the head and band is placed 1/16 of an inch from scalp & center of rod. Bands are untwisted.
Draping/Shampoo Student was able to execute draping technique. Student was able to shampoo hair without wetting client face or back.	Re-direct Student Program Student needed a high level of supervision to complete the ponytail section. Had difficulty with all of the following tasks. Was mostly unable to do the following tasks: 1. comb hair smooth 2. centering ponytail 3. loose rubberband with hair tangled in it.	Developing Student needed several reminders to complete the ponytail section. Had difficulty with 2/3 of the following tasks: 1. comb hair smooth 2. centering ponytail 3. loose rubberband	Accomplished Student needed a few reminders to complete the ponytail section. Had ldifficulty with 1/3 of the following tasks: 1. comb hair smooth 2. centering ponytail 3. loose rubberband	Excellent Student was able to listen to directions to complete the ponytail section independently. Had no significant difficulty with any of the following tasks: 1. comb hair smooth 2. centering ponytail 3. loose rubberband
Blow Dry and Marcel Curls Student should have dried hair and wrapped hair in a counter clockwise direction. Student should be able to bump hair or Shirley Temple curls	Re-direct Student Program Student needed a high level of supervision to complete the blow dry and curl section. Had difficulty with all of the following tasks. Was mostly unable to do the following tasks & gave up: 1. clip hair out of way to dry each section 2. manipulate the iron	Developing Student needed several reminders to complete the blow dry and curl section. Had difficulty with both of the following tasks but did not give up until ironing: 1. clip hair out of way to dry each section 2. manipulate the iron	Accomplished Student needed a few reminders to complete the blow dry and curl section. Had difficulty with one of the following tasks but did not give up: 1. clip hair out of way to dry each section 2. manipulate the iron	Excellent Student was able to listen to directions to complete the blow dry and curl section independently. Had no difficulty with the following tasks and did not give up: 1. clip hair out of way to dry each section 2. manipulate the iron
Roller Placement Student should have partings formatted and rollers placed in appropriately in each quadrant.	Re-direct Student Program Student needed a high level of supervision to complete roller placement. Had difficulty with all of the following tasks. Was mostly unable to do the following tasks: 1. place rollers from largest to smallest 2. created sub-sections equal length & width of each roller 3. hair is smooth around roller with no loose pieces when clipped.	Developing Student needed several reminders to complete roller placement. Had difficulty with 2/3 of the following tasks: 1. place rollers from largest to smallest 2. created sub-sections equal length & width of each roller 3. hair is smooth around roller with no loose pieces when clipped.	Accomplished Student needed a few reminders to complete roller placement. Had ldifficulty with 1/3 of the following tasks: 1. place rollers from largest to smallest 2. created sub-sections equal length & width of each roller 3. hair is smooth around roller with no loose pieces when clipped. Technical Skill The following technical skills will also be rated.
Tool Use/Motor Coordination Student is able to multitask	Re-direct Student Program Student is unable to use more than one tool at a time. Continually sets tools down. Stuggles to manipulate wraps and rods when winding hair. Struggles to manipulate the round bruch and blowdryer without setting one or both tools down frequently.	Developing Student can use more than 1 tool but struggles setting tools down frequently.	Accomplished Student uses tools satisfactorily, Uses proper hand movements. Uses tools safely.	Excellent Student was able to use tools easily while manipulating hair.
Problem Solving Student takes initiative to problem solve	Re-direct Student Program Student doesn't remember to adjust manekin head to so that work can be done easier. Doesn't rewet hair during four section activities. Allows floor to become soaked with water rather than to use additional towelsl.	Developing Student recongnizes problems but doesn't react or seek assistance.	Accomplished Student recognizes and acts to solve problems but uses more steps than is necessary. Is willing to seek assistance.	Excellent Student recognizes, initiates and solves problems independently.
Attention to Detail Student is detail oriented	Re-direct Student Program Student doesn't try or is unwilling to correct parellel roller &/or rod placement, straight sectioning lines,	Developing Student doesn't readily recongnize flaws but if advised will attempt to correct.	Accomplished Student recognizes and then independently attempts to correct flaws and without guidance.	Excellent Student recognizes and corrects the minimal flaws made--strives for excellence.
