Dribbling the ball
Failure
Minimal or no contact with the ball.
Needs Improvement
Student uses toes to kick the ball in front of them and does not go in a straight line. The student is constantly chasing after the ball. Has to always look at the ball while dribbling.
Developing
Student uses only one foot to kick the ball forward and chases after the ball. Student sometimes runs over the ball. Sometimes the head is up looking around while dribbling.
Good/Proficient
Student kicks the ball within 1 yard ahead of them with each pass. They use both feet and only the inside or outside of their foot. The student can accelerate and stop and without losing control. Student occasionally looks at the ball while dribbling.
Advanced
Student kicks the ball within 1 yard ahead of them with each pass. They use both feet and uses both the inside and outside of their feet. The student can accelerate, stop and turn, without losing control. Student rarely looks at the ball while dribbling.
Passing
Failure
Minimal or no contact with the ball.
Needs Improvement
Student passes the ball with their toes and "pushes" the ball rather than kicks the ball. The ball goes nowhere near the target. The ball bounces for most of the pass.
Developing
Student passes the ball with their toes and "pushes" the ball rather than kicks the ball. The ball goes toward the target but is off by a few feet. The ball bounces for most of the pass. Body faces target most of the time.
Good/Proficient
Student passes the ball within a foot to their partner. Student sometimes uses the inside of their foot. Ball bounces on the ground through some of the pass. Hips are square to target.
Advanced
Student passes the ball right on target (making it so that the partner does not have to move or hits them in stride). Student uses the inside of their foot. Ball does not leave the ground. Hips are square to target.
Trapping the ball
Failure
Minimal or no contact with the ball.
Needs Improvement
Does not attempt to trap the ball, no contact or lacks a soft contact causing the ball to bounce away preventing control.
Developing
Needs to improve the contact by moving slightly away to prevent the ball from rebounding away from the body.
Good/Proficient
Absorb the ball and soften the contact by moving slightly away on contact. Keeps the ball close, within one foot after trap.
Advanced
Prior knowledge and experience gives student an advantage.
Traps occur fast and without much effort.
