Basketball Self Assessment
Basketball- students will display basic skills learned in class during game situations. Students will play by the rules and with a strong work ethic.

Student rarely dribbles the basketball with control while moving. Rigid stance, knees not bent.
Only attempts dribbling with dominant hand.

Student can dribble the basketball while moving. Does not have good control. Cannot dribble with head up. Attempts dribbling with non dominant hand.
Proficient
Student can dribble the basketball with good control and proper positioning. Student dribbles with head up. Student dribbles with both hands with success. Able to change direction while dribbling
Exceptional
Student can dribble the basketball with excellent control, proper positioning, and both hands. Student dribbles with head up, finger pads, knees bent. Keeps control of ball majority of time when changing direction
Shooting
Developing
Student rarely shoots the ball correctly. Student does not follow through. Student uses two hands to shoot. Student is not balanced when shooting.
Growing
Student can sometimes shoot the ball successfully. Student sometimes follows through. Student uses two hands instead of one to shoot. Students attempts to be balanced during shot.
Proficient
Student shoots the ball correctly. Student is balanced and follows through. Student is usually successful in shooting and at the very least is hitting rim or backboard with most shots.
Exceptional
Student shoots the ball demonstrating the "BEEF" technique. Balance, Elbow, Eyes, Follow-through. Student demonstrates very good accuracy and shots when appropriate.
Passing
Developing
Student rarely passes the ball successfully. Student does not follow through on pass. Student cannot get the pass to teammates. Student does not make sure the pass recipient is ready for the ball
Growing
Student can sometimes pass the ball successfully. Student sometimes follows through the pass. Student sometimes uses correct type of pass in game situation
Proficient
Student passes the ball correctly. Student follows through on pass. Student usually completes the pass to a teammate. Student usually makes the correct type of pass in game situation.
Exceptional
Student passes the ball with precision and accuracy. Student passes so that their teammate can receive it with ease by using the correct type of pass.
Team Play
Developing
Little effort is given to game. Does not keep up with play and defensive play is not consistent. Does not move to get open and would prefer not to be passed the ball.
Growing
Minimal effort is given to game. Sometimes keeps up with play and knows where check is but not always defending them closely. Prefers to pass ball to teammate as quick as possible.
Proficient
Good effort is given to game. Stays with check on defence and tries to get open on offence. When in possession of ball makes good decision as to pass, dribble or shoot.
Exceptional
Excellent effort given to game, moving at appropriate pace whenever in game. Plays tough defence on check and consistently moves to get open on offence. Makes good decisions when in possession of ball.

Little to no knowledge of rules, rarely knows when violations or fouls occur. Does not acknowledge if student they commit a violation or foul.
Growing
Minimal knowledge of rules. Acknowledges when violations and fouls occur but only when others point them out.
Proficient
Good knowledge of rules. Knows when violations and fouls occur but only acknowledges them when they are obvious.
Exceptional
Advanced knowledge of the rules and plays by them.
Calls violations and fouls on own team and politely questions other team when rules seem to have been broken.
