Fall Stll Life Using modified contour line to render a fall still life of gourds, pumpkins, corn, leaves and sunflowers while considering balanced compositional placement and filling of the picture plane. Applying Watercolor as instructed to mix and blend realistic colors, using paint washes for sky and grass (or dirt) and adding blades of grass or other textures to the background. Finishing as a line drawing with thin black Sharpie to accentuate the contour line drawing.

Observe/Composition Enter description	Excellent You "blocked out" observed and captured a thoughful, full and balanced composition that took up space in all four quadrants across the paper. It shows the use of the design principle of balance - specifically asymmetrical balance.	Good Your composition takes up most of the space in the paper, but still leaves some unfilled spaces. It may not be completely balanced but is somewhat balanced asymmetrically.	Fair It appears you did not think too much about the placement of the objects in your composition and did not "block it out" before drawing the items. There may be big gaps of space on your paper or it may be all in the center or to one side.	Poor Your composition is very unbalanced - way over to one side, too small in the middle, or too much "dead" or unused space altogether.
Observe/Develop Craft Use and development of CONTOUR DRAWING SKILLS - specifically modified contour lines.	Excellent Your drawing shows that you understand how to look for contours, edges and details and capture them with modified contour lines. All of the objects have detailed, realistic and descriptive outlines that show the objects' shapes, patterns, details, lumps and bumps that are rendered in modified contour lines.	Good Your drawing shows that you are beginning to understand contour line drawing because some of your objects have realistic, detailed and descriptive outlines that show you observed them well. There is some evidence of drawing with modified contour lines.	Fair Your drawing has few descriptive details. It appears you did not look at the objects enough to capture their unique features.Most of the objects have not been drawn with modified contour lines, careful observation and attention to details.	Poor Your drawing is not a contour line drawing. You made up the lines or drew simplistic imagery more from memory with little observation and descriptive detail.
Develop Craft/Watercolor painting FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS AND INSTRUCTIONS for the proper use of watercolor paint, color mixing and texture techniques.	Excellent You were patient and attentive to detail as you painted. You mixed colors and painted neatly within the shapes of the objects. Your colors are light enough to retain the quality of your initial line drawing.	Good You mixed most colors pretty well and painted fairly neatly. You made some attempt to control the lightness/darkness of your colors. You were attentive to painting most of the details of your objects.	Fair Control of the paint is somewhat lacking. There may be some messy areas of bleeding colors or paint applied too heavily or streaky. Colors mixing is not really evident.	Poor You made little or no attempt to pay attention and follow directions for painting techniques. You need to work on controlling paint and pre-planning its application using appropriately sized brushes, amounts of water and paint. Too bright or muddy colors, streaks, drips, blobs or thick spots are evident.
Develop Craft/Observe You observed the realistic colors and made color choices and mixed and blended to achieve them.	Excellent Choice and application of color shows attentiveness and achievement of color mixing through the techniques taught. The colors look natural and match the actual colors of the objects in the still life as well as possible.	Good Choice and application of color is successful in most of the objects through color mixing to make the appropriate and realistic colors of many of the objects.	Fair There is only a little evidence of color mixing to attempt the realistic colors of the objects in the still life. Some color choices are not appropriate for this project because they are too bright or unrealistic.	Poor There is little or no evidence of an attempt at color mixing to achieve the realistic colors of the objects in the still life.
Envision/Develop Craft BACKGROUND FINISHING	Excellent You were attentive to the resource material and demonstrations of techniques for finishing the background. You were successful in utilizing the techniques to make the still life look as if it is in a realistic and natural setting with proper colors and textures.	Good You made a reasonable attempt at following the instructions and techniques to make the background of your still life painting look somewhat natural and realistically placed in the grass or on the ground.	Fair There is a little evidence of following all of the instructions and techniques for finishing the background of your still life. The assignment is complete.	Poor There is little or no attempt to meet the requirements or techniques for creating the background. It may not look natural or realistic at all or the assignment may not be complete.
Engage&Persist/Develop Craft Finishing with thin SHARPIE - re-outlining the contour lines to make them visible.	Excellent You re-outlined everything - all the original modified contour and descriptive lines showing all the details, lumps and bumps of your objects over the watercolor with THIN SHARPIE.	Good You re-outlined most details but perhaps not all with THIN SHARPIE.	Fair You re-outlined some details, but not all. You may not have used the correct THIN SHARPIE as instructed.	Poor You didn't bother to re-outline the details too well with THIN SHARPIE - or you did not finish this step.
Engage & Persist TIME ON TASK/EFFORT	Excellent Class time was consistently used wisely. Demonstrates the highest level of effort using 100% of available class to stay on task and complete quality work. Cell phone use and other distractions were minimal to none.	Good Class time was mostly used wisely - most of the available class time was used to complete good work with effort. There may have been some distraction by cell phone or other things.	Fair Class time was NOT always used wisely. Level of effort varied day to day. Not always focused and on task. May have been distracted by cell phone or other things a bit too often. As a result, work may not have been completed on time.	Poor Class time was not used wisely and minimal to no effort was put forth to complete the required work. Most often off-task and not focused or motivated. Too much use of cell phone and other distractions.
Use, Care & Respect for Materials	Excellent Student typically keeps painting and other materials, as well as table area clean without reminders. The student shows great respect for the materials as well as his/her fellow students, the teacher and art in general. Student shows respect for the materials, for fellow students, the teacher and for the assignment.	Fair Student may need frequent reminders to clean up materials. Occasional spills and/or messy work areas or materials are left behind. Some respect for materials, fellow students, the teacher, the art room and assignments may or may not be evident.	Poor Student shows little respect for materials, fellow students, the teacher, assignments or the art room in general. May deliberately misuse or mistreat materials and/or mostly does NOT clean-up properly.
