Design
Accomplished
The student created a clear radial design that can be seen clearly even when viewers step back from the piece. The student was extremely planned and thoughtful when designing a layout that used consistent space and shape between their line work.
Skilled
The student created a pretty clear visual design. When up close and personal the viewer can make-out the designs, but it gets a bit confusing after taking a couple steps back. The student was pretty successful when drawing with a radial design that remains pretty consistent when spacing and using their line-work skills.
Emerging
The student created a radial design with minimal line-work and/or line-work that comes across confusing to the viewer. The mandala became too complicated and/or too basic.
Limited
The design is messy and inconsistent mostly because the artist didn't take the time during the pre-planning phase or when tracing.
Paint Mixing
Accomplished
All colors have been exceptionally well-organized and painted in their correct space. At least one lighter value and one darker value was mixed for each color. The values remain consistent regardless of the color you're looking at. Each mid-hue differs from the next.
Skilled
All colors have been mix well and are in their correct spots. The artist created a tint and shade for each mid-hue. The values of the tints, mids, and shades are a bit inconsistent from each other. Each mid-hue differs from the next.
Emerging
All the colors have been mixed pretty well however the mid-hues have a couple that are farely close in color and are difficult to differentiate between. Tints and shades were created but their values are pretty inconsistent.
Limited
The colors were not mixed properly and many colors are far too close to each other. Tints and shades were created but their values are extremely inconsistent.
Creativity/ Originality
Accomplished
The artist created a piece that is very different from other students and/or examples used in class.
The piece offers a dynamic outlook on the mandalas that still remains clear to the viewer.
The artist utilized the three values in an attractive manner that helps the design stay clear.
Skilled
The artist created a piece that is well done, but ideas and designs are a little too safe and somewhat simple. The artist used some repetitive shaping and designs when creating the three different values for each color. The student was pretty creative, but could have pushed more to think outside of the box.
Emerging
The artist has created three different designs for each section of value, but the design is pretty straight forward and the artist didn't push themselves enough to be creative and original. The designs have a basic feelings to them or can be repetitive.
Limited
The artist used extremely basic shapes, concepts, and/or ideas. Or the artist used messy line work when creating the design.
Craftsmanship/consistency
Accomplished
Color wheel has been exceptionally planned, well-organized, and paper is free of dirt/rips/wrinkles/damages and the layout is extremely harmonious and consistent. The student took their time when tracing and planning the final product. The line work used with marker was extremely thought through and used many different line weights. The artist also pulled nice consistent lines.
Skilled
Color wheel was planned, and mostly well-organized. Paper is almost free of dirt/rips/wrinkles/damages. The artist did a pretty good job when tracing and creating the final 12 piece wheel. The line work was executed well and consistent, but the artist used very few different line weights over and over again.
Emerging
Paper is partially free of dirt/rips/wrinkles/damages. The artist has a decent amount of inconsistencies because of tracing or lining up the sector. The artist used a marker in order to emphasize the line-work however the lines are a bit messy and they didn't take their time being very consistent when pulling.
Limited
Paper is not in good condition with numerous stains/rips/wrinkles/damages. Craftsmanship needs improvement. Line work is messy and tracing was inconsistent.
