Basketball Basic Skills

Students will learn the basic fundamentals of basketball, to include dribbling with both hands in a controlled manor looking straight ahead in a rhythm, shooting with proper follow-through, rotation of ball, and hand placement on ball, passing to include the proper mechanics of the two handed chest pass

Shooting	Needs Improvement Unable to shoot ball with proper hand placement No follow-through after shooting the ball *No rotation of ball after ball is shot	Fair Hand placement not consistantly correct Not a full follow-through *Rotation of ball not consistant	Good Correct hand placement on ball Follow-through must be correct After snapping the wrist, the fingers of your shooting hand should be pointed toward the rim Rotation of ball is evident
Dribbling	Needs Improvement Unable to dribble ball with one hand Uses palm to dribble ball Looks down at the ball while dribbling Dribbling of ball not in rhythm	Fair Able to dribble ball with only one hand but not the other Looks down at the ball occasionally Not in full rhythm when dribbling ball Finger tips and the palm of the hand is used to dribble the ball	Good Dribbling the ball with the tips of your fingers Using your forearm and wrist to balance the ball Able to dribble with both the left and right hand individually Looks up while dribbling the ball in rhythm.
Chest Passing	Needs Improvement Finger placement on ball is incorrect Ball is seperated form chest Forward step is not taken when releasing the ball Pushing off wrong foot when passing ball *Arms not fully extended when passing the ball	Fair Three componets of the chest pass must be excuted properly Finger placement on ball Ball close to chest Forward step taken when releasing the ball Push off your back foot when passing ball Extend your arms to help you pass the ball	Good Fingers spread over ball, ball close to the chest Take a step forward while releasing the ball Push off your back foot when passing ball Extend your arms to help you pass the ball
