Breaststroke
	Beginner 1 pts	Intermediate 2 pts	Advanced 3 pts	Expert 4 pts
Body position/rhythm	Beginner Legs or whole body submerged during stroke; no rhythm to the stroke.	Intermediate Legs or whole body somewhat submerged during stroke, but emerging rhythm.	Advanced Horizontal or nearly horizontal with proper sequence, but inappropriate timing.	Expert Body horizontal with proper order and timing (pull, breathe, kick, glide).
Kick	Beginner Proper motion not detected, legs may not do the same thing, and feet are not flexed.	Intermediate Proper motion and direction are emerging, but feet are not flexed.	Advanced Legs demonstrate proper motion, but rhythm is not consistent (legs may not be doing the same thing). Feet are flexed most of the time.	Expert Both legs demonstrate a proper whip kick motion with flexed feet during kick and relaxed while gliding.
Arms	Beginner No clear outsweep and insweep, hands finish at hips, and the elbows are not up (none of the requirements met).	Intermediate One of the three requirements met.	Advanced Two of the three requirements met.	Expert Clear outsweep and insweep that does not pass the chest line, and swimmer's elbows are up.
Overall	Beginner Swimmer does not look comfortable in the water. Swimmer is submerged and is not able to finish 25m of breaststroke.	Intermediate Swimmer looks somewhat comfortable in the water. He/she is able to finish 25m, but with stopping to rest.	Advanced Swimmer looks comfortable in the water, and can finish 25m breaststroke, but with stroke breaking on occasion.	Expert Swimmer is comfortable with the stroke and is able to finish 25m of breaststroke without stopping or breaking stroke.
