Shaded Value -Shadows and 3-D Figures Art I: Shaded Sphere Value Study The student will create 5 three-dimensional figures while demonstrating shaded values. Sphere Shaded Value
	Level 4 10 pts	Level 3 9 pts	Level 2 8 pts	Level 1 7 pts
3-D Form	Level 4 Pencil strokes follow sphere with shading in a curved manner consistent with the spherical shape. Shape appears three-dimensional.	Level 3 Shading is somewhat curved like the sphere. Shape appears somewhat flat in areas.	Level 2 Shading is almost straight and not curved like the sphere itself. Form appears flat.	Level 1 Shading is difficult to determine shape of form. Form appears flat.
Light source	Level 4 Established light source with noticeable highlight. Shadow is congruent with light source for a realistic interpretation. Shadow is correct size.	Level 3 Established light source with noticeable highlight. Shadow is somewhat congruent with light source. Shadow is almost correct size.	Level 2 Established light source, via lighter area. Shadow is not in line with light source and goes off in different direction. Shadow is not correct size.	Level 1 Unsure of light source, not enough highlight. Light source doesn't help with illusion of 3-D. Shadow is clearly not in line with light source or not visable, not correct size.
Value	Level 4 Blending appears smooth with proper levels of value. Cast shadow is darkest value.	Level 3 Blending needs some improvement, with some choppy levels in value. Cast shadow is not the darkest value.	Level 2 Blending needs a great deal of improvement , shapes appear grainy and there is choppy levels . Cast shadow is not the darkest value.	Level 1 No blending or muddy/messy blending. Blending is not repairable. Grooves are etched into the paper. .
Craftsmanship	Level 4 Sphere is crisp and clean with no outside pencil strokes. Drawing appearance is very neat. No other marks are on paper except for sphere/shadow.	Level 3 Drawing appearance is somewhat neat with a few smudges. No other marks are on paper except for sphere/shadow.	Level 2 Drawing is somewhat messy with some shading appearing outside of sphere/shadow. Some smudging but no other marks on paper.	Level 1 Drawing appears messy. Shading appears outside of sphere/shadow. There are additional lines and smudges on paper that should have been erased.
