Technique/Execution/Alignment

Student has a basic understanding of body connection, positions, and isolations (i.e. posture, passe and contraction). Student is able to successfully demonstrate locomotor movements. Student is able to successfully and consistently demonstrate requirements needed for mastery of this level. Student is able to take corrections and apply them regularly. Student is aware of level and working to improve regularly.
Style/Performance

Student is able to replicate the instructor’s style or begin discovery of their own individual style. They are not yet able to perform a variety of genres of jazz (i.e., music theater, lyrical, contemporary) but struggles to successfully communicate with the audience.
Timing/Connection/Musicality

Student is working to demonstrate dance musicality in a few ways – which sounds they choose to dance to, how they highlight the sounds, how they emote the mood of the song. Rhythm and timing is not quite clear and understood and connection to music is not as evident.
Student is working to successfully tell a story with their movement as well as interact with others while performing.
Professional Disposition

Late to class only once or twice;
almost never misses a class; no unexcused absences. generally takes
responsibility for material and work
missed; no more than one deadline missed; does not seek exceptions from class/college policies

Student has a stronger and deeper understanding of body connection, positions, and isolations (i.e. posture, positions and contractions). Student is able to successfully demonstrate locomotor movements and link movement together. Student is able to successfully and consistently demonstrate requirements needed for mastery of this level. Student is aware of level and working to improve regularly and is able to take corrections and apply them regularly.

Student is able to replicate the instructor’s style quickly and begin to discover their own style in more than one genre.
They can better perform a variety of genres of jazz (i.e., music theater, lyrical, contemporary) and is working to better successfully communicate with the audience but is still struggling to find their own voice within the performance

Student is working to demonstrate dance musicality in a few ways – which sounds they choose to dance to, how they highlight the sounds, how they emote the mood of the song. They are working to make rhythm and timing clear and understood and make connections to the music.

Technique/Execution/Alignment

Student has a clear understanding of lines and positions and is able to transition smoothly from floor to standing using locomotor movements. Student is technically proficient with skills needed for this level. More difficult skills and next level criteria are attempted regularly. Pacing of material will be quicker and detailed and will be demonstrated successfully. Student can learn and recall choreography and demonstrate regularly.
Style/Performance

Individual style has now begun to emerge. Student is confident in learning choreography when performing multiple types of jazz styles and is able to command focus as a performer. Full range of motion and full use of kinesphere/efforts are present. Student is still working on being confident in a variety of styles of dance.
Timing/Connection/Musicality

Demonstrates dance musicality in a few ways – which sounds they choose to dance to, how they highlight the sounds, how they emote the mood of the song. Rhythm and timing is clear and understood and connection to music is evident.
Student is capable of telling a story with their movement as well as interacting with others while performing.

Mastery of jazz technique has reached its culmination. Quick footwork, floor work and aerial work (leaps and jumps) are performed with ease and consistency. Students are able to combine multiple skills with smooth and seamless transitions. More difficult skills and next level criteria are attempted regularly and some are successfully demonstrated. Student can learn and recall choreography and demonstrate with ease and skill proficient for professional level entry.
Style/Performance

Individual style is strong and confidence is evident. Student is confident learning choreography when performing all types of jazz styles and is able to command focus as a performer. Full range of motion and full use of kinesphere/efforts are actualized. Student is confident in a variety of styles of dance.
Timing/Connection/Musicality

Demonstrates dance musicality in several ways – able to demonstrate confidently which sounds they choose to dance to, how they highlight the sounds, how they emote the mood of the song. Ability to hear what the choreographer wants as well as the rhythm, instrumentation, and nuance of a wide variety of styles.
Student is capable of inspiring emotions with stories and connection to body while dancing (both narrative and abstract subjects).

for entire class; regularly attends class; all absences are excused;
