Uses tool for purpose intended	Beginning Rarely uses a tool for its intended purpose. For example using a screwdriver as a chisel on a regular basis.	Developing Sometimes chooses the correct tool for the job, but chooses the incorrect tool at least 50% of the time.	Achieving Usually choose the correct tool for the job. May have to be told once or twice a week that the wrong tool is being used.	Excelling Consistently uses tools for the purpose intended. Has been told fewer than 3 times that they have the incorrect tool.
Chooses appropriate tool for task	Beginning Rarely chooses the correct tool for the task. Has to be given the correct tool before production can begin. For example using the mitre saw to make rip cuts on a regular basis.	Developing Sometimes chooses the correct tool for the task. Often need to be directed to the proper tool to be used.	Achieving Usually chooses the correct tool for the task. Some guidance required when choosing tools.	Excelling Consistently chooses the correct tool for the task. Very little guidance required when choosing tools
Uses tool safely	Beginning Rarely uses tools in a safe manner. Does not wear PPE or use push sticks on a regular basis.	Developing Sometimes uses tools safely. Have to be reminded of safety precautions 2 or 3 times each week.	Achieving Usually uses tools safely. May have to be reminded to use push sticks or wear PPE once per month	Excelling Consistently uses tools safely. Always uses push sticks or push blocks when necessary. Never seen no wearing PPE.
