Musicality	Poor Student is not comfortable following the tempo as a lead or interpreter.	Fair Student is stagnant on maintaining his/her rhythm in their steps.	Good Student is able to maintain their tempo within their steps as a lead or interpreter.	Excellent Student is able to maintain his/her tempo as both a lead and interpreter. Student is comfortable with speed changes within Merengue music and steps.
Lead/Interpreter	Poor Student does not follow their partner's cues or the tempo of the music, hold his/her arms properly and starts before their lead initiates movement. Student does not follow the tempo of the music, does not position their arms or hands properly and does not adjust their steps based on their partner's ability or height.	Fair Student is able to follow the tempo of the music some of the time, holds their arms properly and allows their lead to initiate movement. Student is able to follow the music some of the time, positions his/her arms properly and is somewhat attentive to their partner's ability and height.	Good Student is efficient in following the tempo of the music and their lead's cues. Student is efficient in leading direction changes and turn cues as well as the tempo of the music.	Excellent Student is comfortable leading and interpreting with multiple partners. Student is able to execute direction changes and turns properly with different speeds of Merengue music.
Body Positions	Poor Student is not able to execute the 5 body positions.	Fair Student is able to perform 3 out of 5 body positions correctly.	Good Student is able to execute all 5 body positions.	Excellent Student is able to combine all 5 body positions while dancing.
