Step-by-Step Instructions with Illustrations 50 x 2 points
You have already created your glue relief prints from your glued cardboard base design. This lesson is to see how well you can communicate and precisely describe in great detail how to explain the multi-step process of creating a glue relief print from start to finish so that another person reading the instructions can follow the instructions with illustrations and end up with the same results. Illustrations must be created by you, not from the internet. Upload to moodle by date due.

Glue Relief Printmaking 80x2 points
Draw in pencil a line design that does not have any area that is larger than 1/2 inch wide on to a thick cardboard base. Trace over penciled design with a thick line of Elmer's Glue. Allow to dry overnight and apply another line the following day. (A third coat of glue might be advantageous.) When glue is dry, work on preparing the paper for printing by adding some guidelines to the paper. Rough edges of printing paper can also add an artistic touch. You will make 3 copies of your print using colored construction paper. Evenly add finished project to black construction paper to create the look of framing. When you are finished with creating your (3) prints, cover your glued relief in heavy duty aluminum foil. Use a burnishing tool to help the foil into the creases between the glue lines. Paint black india ink over the aluminum foil to add depth to the overall piece of artwork. Very lightly, wipe off excess ink. Add artwork to black construction paper for displaying.

Evaluating/Critiquing Graphic Design 15x2 Points
At some point, students need to be introduced to critiquing of artwork. One way for students to learn to critique is through evaluating classroom art together. By making most of the questions/answers precise (yes & no) and personally non-judgemental, students should not make personal judgements based on who created the artwork. This is not a personality contest. This is based on the artwork itself. Be honest in your answers/evaluation.

India Ink Line Design - 60x2 Points
Teacher applies 50 cent size drop of india ink near the center of 12x18 white tag board with approx. five (5) legs. Students use soda straw to properly blow the ink easily in to all directions. Allow ink to dry overnight and use the rest of the class time creating balanced patterns / designs for this project. Using colored markers, students make line designs inside the areas made by the blown lines. Repetition of shapes to form line patterns can also be used to fill in these areas. A line can be achieved by a row of shapes as well as a solid line. Do not leave large white areas between your lines. Repeat each pattern at least three (3) times so your design stays in balance.

Art Appreciation Presentation 140x2 points
People often express their feelings about historical issues or events through artwork such as songs, novels, short stories, paintings, sculptures and movies. You will research the ARTIST (include background information) and analyze the artist's artwork you selected. 4. You will create your own presentation using Photo Booth, iPhoto, iMovie, Pages and / or Keynote. 5 & 6. You will change your project to a PDF and upload your presentation to my Moodle and finally make your presentation to class. Be prepared to answer a question(s) from the class or the teacher. Consider the interior and exterior lines, add shading and line details inside the contour of the hands with pencil. Paint a value scale (3 minimum) with your favorite color using Tempera Paint for the background and then add one (using the same color hue) line that symbolizes your personality. Allow project to dry most of the way before taking off masking tape. Cut out and glue signing hands to finished background. Negative Spaces / Positive Shapes - 70 points x2
Using a wooden pencil, students initially draw several unusual/uneven shapes (each approx. 3-4") on manilla tagboard then decide with teacher & cut out the unique shape. (Stay away from letters and numbers for shapes.)Again, using your wooden pencil, place your shape at various angles and very lightly sketch them on white tagboard leaving approx. 2" between the shapes. Lightly draw straight or curving lines between the shapes. (This will create the negative areas for patterns) Then begin creating colored tight-knit patterns using colored markers on scrap paper. Remember, patterns repeat. When you have created enough tight-knit patterns, you may begin drawing patterns on the white tagboard. Hint: Write on back of tagboard names of colors used so that you use the same color in your pattern. DO NOT OUTLINE shapes or patterns. Erase any pencil markings before turning in project with your rubric for grading.
