1 rubric Repoussé Radial Name Design       popup preview
Repoussé is a metalworking technique in which a malleable metal is ornamented or shaped to create a design in low relief. Students created radial designs by making their names radiate around in a circular path. They transferred the design onto metal sheets using the repoussé technique. Then india ink was applied and some used sand paper to create more contrast and emphasize more texture. In order to apply this concept successfully, students had to understand how to find the radius of a circle, which is half the diameter... and viola! Math and art combined!

2 rubric All About Penguins       popup preview
The lesson starts with a discussion on what they know about design, then Elements and Principles of design will be reviewed. Then there will be a discussion about what they know about penguins, answers will be recorded on the board and will be used later on in the lesson when they learn facts about penguins, that they are endangered species, what conservation is and what they can do to make a difference in their own lives. Students will be given visual references of penguins to help them formulate an idea, create, revise and publish an original work of art. A variety of media will be demonstrated so that students will be able to choose specific tools, materials and processes to communicate their idea. After the work of art is completed, students will write an artist statement and publish it on Artsonia.com
