You will design a shield for your assigned character that has 4 symbols that represent the four most dominant characteristics for that character. You will then type a paragraph that describes what each symbol represents and uses at least 2 story details, with citations, that support each symbol that is included on the shield.

Instructions: Write a parable that is minimum one page in length. You may use a familiar folk tale or fable as a starting point for your story, or you may come up with something new. Your parable should express a moral lesson without stating it directly. The theme should also be universal. Keep this Steinbeck quote in mind, "If this story is a parable, perhaps everyone takes his own meaning from it and reads his own life into it." This fable is based on a theme seen in The Pearl.

Task: You will analyze the plot elements and character development for the story you chose to read. Create a plot roller coaster to demonstrate your understanding of plot and character development. Make sure your project meets the requirements listed in the rubric.

Students will create a picture book based on the book they have read.

Students will create a comic strip about a book they have read. This can be on paper or in digital format.

Prepare a two-minute interview with one of the characters in the book you read. Pretend that this character is being interviewed by a talk show host. You may do this project with a partner, but be sure to write a script before taping. You may choose to do a "live" version of this. While your presentation is important, your script is what will be graded.
