While studying the elements of realistic fiction, students write a realistic fiction story that demonstrates their understanding of the stages of a plot and characteristics of a story.

Students read a novel using shared and guided reading, and using Kurzweil on the computer.

You are the new owner of an NFL expansion team. You need to come up with a team name and design a helmet for your team. You will also need to decide what characters will play what positions. You will need 1QB, 1RB, 3WRs, 1TE, and 3 linemen. You will need to explain why you would play the character in that position. Your explanation should be at least 2 sentences and include a personality trait of the character.

Design your own IPod Touch. Your IPod Toch should include four apps. You will need to create a colourful Ipod. you will also need to write two sentences for each application explaining what the application is and how it relates to the story.

Create a board game that reflects aspects of the independent reading book that you have read over the course of this quarter. Questions that show insight will earn higher marks than those that are simply recall questions. The game board must be at least 8.5x11 in. and must be on card stock or poster board. Questions must be printed.

Create a multimodal how-to video summarizing the book you have read.

Students will know homework expectations which would include completeness, accuracy, requirements, legibility and time management.

Students complete reading response journals based on books read at home for homework.
