Holiday String Design Projects 1. Students will first choose a 3-dimensional geometric shape they would like their ornament to be. 2. Students will get approval from teacher as to the shape and design. 3. Students will create 2 nets for the figure that was chosen using cardstock paper. 4. Students will record the dimensions of one of their nets for the purpose of calculating surface area, perimeter, and volume. 5. Students will take the second net, cut it out, and fold it into the 3-dimensional figure. 6. Students will glue a loop of yarn to the inside top of the figure, and then glue the figure together using the flaps that were drawn on the net. 7. Depending on what is chosen, the students will make one string design for every side of the chosen geometric shape using the correct dimensions for each surface. 8. Students will then glue a string design to each surface of the 3-dimensional figure. 9. Grading will be according to the rubric that was provided.
