Students will be divided into groups to create workout videos based on the knowledge they have acquired throughout class or researched workout routines. The video must include a defined fitness related workout routine: mainly upper body exercise, mainly lower body exercise, mainly core exercise, mainly full body exercise, isometric exercise. It must also incorporate fitness terminology, identification of muscles, and health benefits. The video must be 5-10 minutes long. Videos must be submitted to the dropbox.

2 rubric Coloring/activity book       popup preview  
The student will create a complete children's coloring/activity book based on the food pyramid/my plate and a healthy lifestyle. The learning outcome is that student's will deepen their understanding of the food groups and making healthy lifestyle choices by the foods they eat and the physical activities they engage in. The book should be at least 10 pages in length and needs to have some dialog about the picture as well as a cover. This coloring/activity book should include pictures that are easy to understand and color. The activities could include items such as word searches, crosswords or word jumbles.

You will create a brochure highlighting nutrition guidelines learned throughout the nutrition unit. The brochure should be captivating as well as informational. Pretend like the reader does not know anything about nutritional guidelines. Your audience is students in grades 6-8 and can be directed toward active, moderately active or somewhat active students.

Students will reflect on what they have learned during the unit on the Healthy Food, the food groups/circle, knowledge of nutritional, tracking daily food intake, making healthy food choices, and learning how to read nutrition labels.

During this unit the students will explore nutrition. The students will gain in their knowledge the ability to read nutrition labels,be able to classify foods into the 6 food groups, and understand the essential function of the heart, lungs, and digestive system.

The students will track their nutrition for 3 days including 1 weekend day. They will put the foods and amounts that they consumed into the GoMeals application to determine nutritional values that they have eaten for the 3 days. They will then use the iPad to make a chart or graph in Numbers to display their nutritional needs.

Students will be expected to track their nutrition for one week. They will include: The food, portion size, nutritional value, and a nutrition planner for the next week.
