If your journal is missing 2 pts. (see scoring) will be deducted for each missing day. No exceptions. You will still need to complete your journal on a sheet of paper and staple it into journal. If you lose your journal, you are responsible for replacing it.

The students designed enclosed ecosystems using bottle biology. They began with a fish, snail, cricket, water plant, and cat grass seeds. They are supposed to document their observations in a journal and write a reflective list of what they learned at the end of the project.

The students will demonstrate the ability to solve a real world problem by identifying the proper force of action when it comes to protecting and sustaining our natural environment; which in this case is the ocean. The students will identify the importance of our oceans, and design a plan to utilize this finite resource in way that benefits the greater good of humanity. The students will create a working website, where all students in the school, (perhaps eventually the County) can participate on a student-wide level to help clean out the ocean and pick up trash. In this organized- student based website; the students will be able to log on, post the hours they picked up trash, who they were with, the day they went, what they found, and anything thing else relative they would like to add about the trip (like pictures, videos etc..). The plan is to help clean up the ocean and involve a Student Earth Caring Community.

You must create an ecosystem circle. First, you will put the title on top: Ecosystem . Then, you will draw a 3 part circle, and label the levels: Organism, Population, Community, Ecosystem. Next, you will illustrate and write an explanation for each level. Finally, go over everything in marker and color it in. If two people are working together, one person can work on the illustrations while the other is working on the explanations. Good luck and take your time!

The students will put together a poster to show during their oral presentation. The poster will contain relevant information directly related to the theme of the self-contained aspect of an ecosystem. The poster will be designed on 11x14 size poster board (1/2 of full poster board).

This rubric is to evaluate the students individually and in their groups. This project was to recognize the human impact on the environment and take responsibility in become environmentally aware. As the research continued, the students prepared for not only a presentation, but a final debate as well. The students then wrote a reflection to decide the importance of compatibility and compromise in working together to preserve the environment and why.
