Rubric for writing assignments: Essays and Compositions

The call to integrate intercultural knowledge and competence into the heart of education is an imperative born of seeing ourselves as members of a world community, knowing that we share the future with others. Beyond mere exposure to culturally different others, the campus community requires the capacity to: meaningfully engage those others, place social justice in historical and political context, and put culture at the core of transformative learning. The intercultural knowledge and competence rubric suggests a systematic way to measure our capacity to identify our own cultural patterns, compare and contrast them with others, and adapt empathically and flexibly to unfamiliar ways of being. The students will present their PPT for the class on the topic of their research paper.

This rubric is to be used to write a reflective essay for graduating Seniors on the mastery acquired duing the year in Spanish Culture class. Specific questions/points to reflect upon have been provided.

Over the next two weeks you will write a journal entry for any six days you choose. This activity has been designed to get you to see life through someone else’s eyes.

Assessment of Fact Sheets of individual countries in South America assignment related to PPT. Material on fact sheets must relate to PPT so students completing it can review material later for test.

Choice of prompts: Discuss 5 common themes present in most or all of the countires we studied for South America; or summarize the presentation of your own country's PPT. Essay must be at least 3 paragraphs and must include evidence of your argument by citing facts presented.

This is a skills building formative assessment. We will work on work attitude, develop skills in research using the internet, focus on a country and its history and culture. You will a PPT answering all prompts to give a glimpse into the richness of the country researched.

To create a 2-3 minute activity to introduce/review 5-6 terms of Chap. 2 - "Ven conmigo 3" book.

3 paragraph analysis on the Cuban Evolution unit.

You will create a "pueblo" labeling the stores, public buildings, and various things and locations around the town using the vocabulary in Capitulo 3 of Expresate 2. Your pueblo should labeled on a map with authentically named Spanish streets, well designed for easy navigation. Imagine you are telling a story about what you and others did around town - write a small paragraph containing no less than 6 sentences using the preterit tense.

You will create a mochila poster using the provided mochila, and will add items to this mochila that you use for your everyday classes. You will identify the items and then write sentences saying what classes you use them for. The more creative the poster, the better the grade!

You presented the recipe you chose after having carefully translated said recipe.

The room in the house needs to have all necessary furniture including a minimum of 5 accessories for a total of 15 items including walls, floor, windows, doors, etc. Each item must be correctly labeled in Spanish. The room itself must be labeled.

PPT based on assigned topic. Be aware that this project is worth 150 points, it counts as a test, it is major grade in the second term.
