Compose and Record an original 16-bar blues piece using the Snowy Day Blues as inspiration. Students will create new lyrics and sing/record their lyrics, perform/record the blues progression, and add a drum loop track that compliments the lyrics and chord progression in Soundtrap. All three elements will be combined/recorded into Soundtrap-in school and at home.

Students will compose a piece of music art, poetry and Chrome Music Lab - Shared Piano.

Choreography: Students are to create original choreography based on popular dances from the decade assigned. The routine NEEDS to have noticeable movements from the original time period. Garageband: Students will research the most popular songs from their decade and will edit, mix, and fade their mash-up in Garageband to practice audio engineering skills.

Step 1: Perform repeated Body Percussion Loop live to teacher Garageband track. Step 2: Transfer body percussion to classroom instruments (xylophones and percussion instruments). Perform live with Garageband tracks created by the students. Students will show repeated loop patterns with body/on instruments to a steady beat Garageband track. Live loop should show contrasting instrumental playing between partners to create variance from the original loop given.

Compose a piece of music in the style of traditional Chinese music for the B Section of Ai Hai Yo. Students must use the D Pentatonic Scale for both the accompaniment (Chrome Music Lab Song Maker) and original melody on xylophone. Student composition must reflect elements of traditional Chinese pitches, rhythms and their individual Dragon artwork.

Ai Hai Yo

The purpose of this project is to research songs from a particular musical era to help you understand the evolution of music over time and how individual songs became popular. Give details about your hit songs regarding: the composer, the texture of the song, the Tempo of the song, the form/structure of the song, dynamics of the song and do they follow the Form/Structure, the meaning of the song, and who influenced this artist musically?

Students will compose a piece of music using graphic notation style. They will use found object instruments, xylophone, and Relief of Nofer as inspiration.

Assessment for Choral groups

Students are to create a movement routine in groups that demonstrate a VARIATION on at least ONE of the original Gahu movements learned. The routine NEEDS to have noticeable movements from the original Gahu movements. Students will apply the creative process to the composition of movement pieces, using the elements of aerobic exercise, historical context, and music to communicate feelings and ideas.

Students are to create a movement routine in groups that shows A B form, as well as responding to the music heard in the orchestral theme. The routine needs to have two different, but noticeable, movement sections and a tableau for the ending. Students will apply the creative process to the composition of movement pieces, using the elements of aerobic exercise and music to communicate feelings and ideas.
