Student Participation/Cooperation Group Assessment

Students will practice and develop skill in using pan and ink, students will create a series of patterns using pen and ink. Students will create a range of value with pan and ink patterns. Students will use dry brush, ink, wash and brush textures in art work. Students will use shading techniques: hatching, stippling and scribbling to create value.

TRANSFORMING SHAPES & FORMS WITH VALUES
Students will demonstrate shading skills using graphite pencils in order to turn flat shapes into three dimensional forms. Students will effectively use a light source, a full range of values, and reflected highlights in their assessment.

With this project you are going to think and explore what Civil Rights means to you. Use your imagination and come up with a picture or drawing showing how you feel, and what you think about the freedoms you have. You may use crayons, colored pencils, markers, pictures, shapes, and/or letters. While you may not cut out an entire picture and glue it to the card stock provided, you are welcome to do a collage of pictures and shapes you cut out and piece together. Use plenty of creativity; many of these will be displayed on the class bulletin board. This project is worth a test grade. Write two paragraphs on the back of your artwork answering the following: Please write in complete sentences using your best grammar and spelling. This project is worth a test grade, and will help your grade for this class.

Value Composition in Graphite/Color Pencil
Value Composition in Graphite and/or Color Pencils Composition demonstrates students ability to create an Illusion of volume/form using the element of Art:Value/ principle of composition. Composition uses all shapes/forms studied that overlap; value is added to the contour drawing using one or more of the methods taught in class (value scale only)Composition shows at least 3-4 values of shading and includes the 5 Principles of Shading: highlight, shade, shadow, reflected light and backshading.

Portraits mixed media work
Students will create an original drawing from observation of a picture printed of their chosen Black Historian. Drawings must have realistic proportions, experiment with their chosen medium , a combination of wet and dry media, refined use of color media, and students must display good work ethic and use of studio time. Work must be NEAT and CLEAN.

9th Grade Poetry Assignment
Students will create their own poem which has to be at least 3 stanzas long and 4 lines per stanza. Students must use at least two of the poetic elements introduced in this unit (simile, metaphor, onomatopoeia, alliteration, assonance, etc.). Any rhyme scheme may be used.

Picture Frame
Students will fabricate a picture frame. The base will be shaped and formed from either brass or aluminum sheet. The frame will be cut, bent, and polished from acrylic.
