After studying the handout on the element of line, students were asked to draw a fall still life, using contour lines to create the shapes of the gourds, corn and pumpkins, then they were to paint the still life in watercolor paint to complete the drawing. The point of the contour line was to enable the student to create the illusion of three dimensions. The success of the painting hinged on furthering that look with careful use of overlapping line, drawing the mat the objects were placed on drawing a horizon line to keep the objects from floating, using creativity in the background to create an interesting painting. The time allowed for this project was a week and two days, thus enabling every student to have a chance at success.

Independent Activity: Self Collage Create a collage that represents who you are as a person. The collage should be made on a small piece of poster-board, and should comprise at least ¾ of the board. This collage should consist of a wide variety of images that tell who you are and what is important to you. You will present this poster to the class, and it will be displayed on the wall of the classroom. Grades will be given according to the attached rubric.

You will be assigned a famous artist. You may choose a painter, a classical musician or a sculptor. Your artist can be from any period; gothic, baroque, renaissance or contemporary. You must research your artist and select a piece of particular interest to you.
