Students will research a brand and create a powerpoint presentation about that brand.

Build a musical composition 16 measures long that uses a variety of rhythms (up to 16th note subdivisions) specific dynam./artic., specific key and tempo markings. Be sure to give it a title and a brief descriptive paragraph. Compose for at least 2 different instruments. HAVE FUN!!

Students will use common rhythms and simple melodic gestures to compose a 8-16 measure composition in either 3/4 or 4/4 time. Students will have numerous class periods to complete the assignment. Students will also turn in a self reflection describing the cognitive process they used in developing their composition.

Choosing one of our music selections during the year, research the composers and the time period of the composition. Submit one 3-5 page paper, double spaced. Include a works cited page, using at least 4 resources. Paper will be graded on quality of research to support the topic, effective use of information gained through research, credibility of sources, content, grammar and mechanics, and bibliography. PAPER IS DUE APRIL 12TH.

Practical elements and applications of the guiding principles behind the composition of music in the Euro-American tradition. Areas of study include: notation, intervals, diatonic chords, seventh chords, functional harmony, cadences, secondary dominants, voice leading, higher extension chords, form, stylistic elements, ear training, harmonic analysis. Assignments will include mastery level exercises for basic knowledge, writing compositions of various lengths and styles, analysis of provided music, ongoing ear training using computer program and in-class exercises
