Persuasive essay with a counter-argument

Write an autobiographical essay in which you introduce yourself to me. Provide a brief life history including information about your family, where you live (and have lived), your pets, your favorite things, etc.) When I finish reading your autobiography, I should feel like I have known you forever. It should be AT LEAST TWO PAGES in length (1000 words). Use your best writing skills. (No spelling, grammar, punctuation problems!)

This rubric is to be used to assess a student's final copy of an opinion article for the classroom newspaper.

Research the approved topic. Submit a four paragraph typed essay publishing the results of your research. Include a Works Cited page with at least 3 sources used researching the paper. Paper will be graded on quantity and quality of research to support the thesis and relevance of included information. Grade will be based on organization, clarity, correct citation format, grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Paper will be graded on quality of research to support the topic, effective use of information gained through research, credibility of sources, content, grammar and mechanics, and bibliography.

The students have chosen a poem or song, completed an extensive pre-writing activity, and developed a Popplet page the discusses the purpose, meanings and underlying themes that the author is attempting to convey through the poem/song.

Goal: Students will demonstrate their knowledge of paragraph organization by writing a 5-paragraph essay utilizing the writing process of planning, organizing, writing, evaluating and revising. *Note: The first 5 criteria of this rubric have been duplicated from the the Steck-Vaughn GED Essay.
