Students will be responsible for constructing their own model of a plant or animal cell and will be expected to include representation of all of the organelles. They will also label each of the represented organelles and provide a key that is labeled and includes a one-sentence statement for each describing the function of the organelle.

Students may choose one of the following project types: Whole cell catalog, edible cell, journey into the cell, infomercial about the cell, powerpoint, cell poster, 3-D model of the cell. Please refer to the handout for the specifics of each project option.

This rubric assesses the students ability to follow directions and construct a 5 sentence conversation in Kiswahili. The conversation must include a greeting and a closing statement. It also must include all Kiswahili words and English translation.

This rubric will assess the students ability to recall factual information about the Scopes Trial and transfer their thoughts to their graphic organizers.

5 rubric A Day in the Life of an Extremophile       popup preview  
They will create a fictional story about a day in the life of their researched extremophile. They must include scientific factual information about the geographical location and physical environment in which their extremophile would live as well as factual information on how it survives in such conditions, but their story will also include fictional elements to allow for creative thinking.

6 rubric ExCELLent Scientists!       popup preview  
Students will research scientists that made significant impacts in the study of cells. Students will be assigned a scientist and given time to research the contributions of their scientist as well as their scientist’s biographical information. The students will then choose an appropriate way to display their gathered information through PowerPoint, poster, or research paper including pictures.
