Students are asked to pretend they are amateur historians preparing a wriiten account of some of the Aboriginal contributions to early settlements in Upper Canada and to explain why they believe they are important.

This is the 6-point, 6-trait rubric weighted such that straight 3's equals passing (70).

Using magazine photos, newspaper pictures, images from the computer or hand drawn images create a collage of images that symbolize an important theme in Freak the Mighty. On a separate sheet of paper, explain the meaning of your collage and how it illustrates a theme from the book.

This rubric can be used to assess any presentation style visual.

Students will research information on an assigned topic related to Canada and prepare a presentation (written or oral) to convey information to the class.

The student's worked together as a team to create a poster highlighting key places and people of Canada! They had to have 6 paragraphs and pictures showcasing great things about Canada. Thy were given 6 class periods to work on this project.

Students are selecting an animal, researching and writing about their animal. The report should tell about where their animal lives, what their animal eats, what their animal looks like, and any interesting fun facts about their animal. Students will write their report notes on pre-printed word webs and then write a simple report.

Students design a 2-page newspaper with at least three different elements and two graphic elements

After students studied World War 1 they wrote their own script to be combined with the group to recorded a radio show of the time period.

Pick four different battles from World War I. For each battle, pick a country that fought in that battle (must pick four different countries); two from the Allied Powers (not including the U.S.), and two from the Central Powers. Pretending you are a soldier there, write a post card home from each battle. Remember, post cards are brief! Describe where you are. What is the battle like? What do you see? What do you experience? Find an image that illustrates a main feature of that battle for the front of the post card. For example, a battle that took place in the middle of a harsh winter could use a snow scene. Post cards should be actual size (do not use a large poster board). Make a mobile with all the post cards. Make a Power Point showing the front and back of the post card in a larger size (for the class to see), and one slide showing how the experiences were similar, and another slide showing how the experiences were different.

ACOS #9 - Identify changes in the American homefront during WWII. This Rubric is designed to assess student performance based on their knowledge of the changes that occurred on the American homefront during World War II.

In this assignment, you will be a time-traveling radio reporter going back to the World War I period to create a 2-3 minute “interview” about a situation or event in the war. This can be any event that we have covered in class. Examples: you might interview a survivor or witness of the sinking of the Lusitania, a soldier about the conditions on the front, a person describe the effects of rationing at home, or report on one of the key battles. Along with the podcast, submit a typed list of resources and an explanation of why you chose your topic. Be creative! You may use music, sound effects, or any other relevant sound clips to “make it real.”
