4 rubric Descriptive Paper       popup preview
The writer should use strong topic sentences that "show" the reader what to expect in the paragraph, should paint a picture so that the reader can easily see what the writer is describing, and should be logical in terms of organization and structure. As the reader, you should "see" the writer's day--the paper should show, not tell. In addition, while the paper does not have to be chronological, it should make sense. Some creative writers may choose not to provide a chronological rendering, and that's fine, but the paper must make sense. In addition, the paper should "show," not tell, by providing clear descriptions that suppor the points the writer is making. The writer's comprehension of the subject and his/her writing skills should also be evident in the correct use of appropriate vocabulary and grammar.
