Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons and information. a. Introduce a topic or text clearly, state an opinion, and create an organizational structure in which related ideas are grouped to support the writer's purpose. b. Provide reasons that are supported by facts and details. c. Link opinion and reasons using words and phrases (e.g., for instance, in order to, in addition). d. Provide a concluding statement or section related to the opinion presented.

This rubric can be used to assess and score any kind of literary analysis essay for students in grades 7-12.

Essay of Literary Analysis on a novel that uses concrete details and textual evidence to support a thesis that is drawn from one particular literary critical theory.

After reading several short stories by Mark Twain write a literary analysis of one story describing how Twain uses literary devices to provide and enhance the satire that speaks to society's need to look at themselves and their follies and foibles in the hope of making an improvement in the foolishness and corruption of society. Support the understanding of satire with references to the text by describing three specific literary devices Twain uses to help him develop the satire in his story.
